Cities for Children is a UK-based charity that seeks to promote and preserve the right to a childhood for children facing the challenges of urban poverty – including children on and of the streets.

How We Think

Our philosophy is rooted in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, according to which we believe that every child deserves the “right to a childhood.” By this we mean:

  • The Right to Read
  • The Right to Play
  • The Right to Feel Safe

Our vision is of a world where all children have access to safe spaces where they can learn, play, grow and achieve their potential.

Our mission is to provide the social and material environment important for the development and well-being of children in and around cities, including but not limited to street-connected children, working children, and those from displaced or migrant communities.

We believe in the agency of children in determining their needs and best interests, and like to take them on board in processes that affect them.

Our current focus is on street-connected children in Pakistan, but we aim to expand to other countries in the future.
